Gorthugher da,...

I guess I neglected to really introduce myself properly at all, so here we go.

My name's Loui and I'm from the Blue Mountains which is just outside of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

My mothers side of the family came from Cornwall though, lived in South Australia before some of them came to this state and set up a farm a long time ago.

I went to Cornwall for the first time in january and it was fantastic, and I'm coming back this coming January.

I'm a musician and I just finished work on a short film for a festival over here, which features a Cornish song penned by me and translated by someone at Kowethas An Yeth Kernewek, of which I am a member. Words provided below for anyone who's interested. I don't think I can really be said to speak Cornish all that well, what I have learnt I have learnt myself but I want to learn more.

and yeah, that's me...

Trubyt (Tus a Arghans hag a Owr)

Tus a arghans, tus a owr,
Hwi dus a ober yn-dann dhor,
Tus a ven ha tus a dhur,
Tus a dheuth dres tir ha mor.

Hwi a hwil y'n tewlder rychys,
Gans an howlsplann bythkweyth tochys,
Eus amkan dh'agas ober sad?
Pan owgh brew ha terrys gans skwat.

Y koedh unn den, y fyw unn den
Pur gemmyn yw an hwedhel hen,
Ha gras dhe Dhyw nyns yw dha dro
May hylli chonsya tenkys 'vorow.

Ha'n tewlder a hwith dha gar koedhys,
Gas ev yn kosk, kantol difeudhys.

Men of silver, men of gold,
You men who work underground,
Men of stone and men of steel,
Men who came by land and sea.

You seek riches in the darkness,
Never touched by the sunshine,
Has your constant work some purpose?
When you are injured and broken by a crushing blow.

One man falls, one man lives
This old story is very common,
And thanks to God it’s not your turn
So you can chance fate tomorrow.

And the darkness keeps your fallen friend
Leave him to sleep, candle extinguished.

Griffin, have you met Carrl Myriad our Cornish musician in Sydney, who leads the Ragged Band and sings and composes Celtic & Cornish songs, including in Cornish? He'd be quite interested to know there are others around.

No, I haven't, I'm not really up on what's going on in sydney music-wise, but I would like to!
