With the Georgian crisis getting into, well, an even bigger crisis, and Russia threatening to invade Poland, and saying they will send missiles to the US mainland, are we all doomed here in Britain?
ok, this not exactly a Cornish subject, but it is certainly a serious and worrying issue happening on our doorstep, and it will involve us ALL. One begins to wonder...does Georgia have huge oil fields...
Yeah...well they didnt actually say they'd invade, they are gonna nuke Poland. Which is bad, very very bad. Why does the US have to piss Russia off all the time.
Because the US are very interested in keeping Russia in their place and don't really want her coming out on top in the world powers again. I think they would prefer it if Russia broke into smaller parts rather than aquire new territories, hense why they are trying to make surrounding countries friendly to groups like NATO.
If the americans surely didn't expect Russia to react both to the missiles and the getting friendly with ex-Soviet Union Nations, then they are not as intelligent as I thought they were.
However, I just don't think that a WWIII is on the cards right now. Several instances, worse than, or similar too this, occured during the Cold War, but both sides were incredibly hesitant because of the finality of nuclear warfair. If push comes to shove, I think a second Cold war is entirely possible, however I just don't think a 3rd world war is going to happen, yet.
I wouldn't at all be surprised. Look at how annoyed the world is getting with one another, Iran, Taliban, Russia, North Korea, all these countries allies. The way things are going, with oil running out, and prices of food and everything else soaring, i think the planet is ripe with war.
While it might be so, each country with nuclear weapons is well aware of what will happen if one of them does any sort of major military action against another, and I think, considering the cold war did not escolate into a hot one, diplomacy still prevails.
I can fully understand Russia's distrust of the Americans, and I can definitely understand why Russia does not wish to be surrounded by NATO members, and sadly this is the only way for Russia to have any influence over eastern europe.
Personally, im fully supportive of Russia, they seem to want to help the South Osettians, and the Americans, as usual, are sticking their fat noses in, and have the nerve to tell the Russians to go away. Seems the US is up to its usual dirty tricks.
The only reason the us is sticking up for Georgia is that they want them to join NATO so the yanks can have there bases there to launch a quick attack on Russia if it kicks off I don't blame Russia ether for being pissed off the us is always poking its nose where it is not wanted. Just like the english they are war mongers

Indeed, the US is famous for it. considering that Georgia is the contributer of the 3rd largest [was rather] military commitments to the Iraq war, America have interest in getting the Georgians on thier side. however, we can't just blindly back russia because they were 'helping' their own people. While it was a great cover story, I doubt the Russians would have gone in with such force had they not had oil pipelines and pending NATO membership.
