Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has given a qualified welcome to the news that Russia had agreed to pull its troops from all of Georgia, except the two separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
However, he insisted that any long-term solution to the conflict had to respect his country's territorial integrity, which included the disputed territories
It follows talks in Moscow between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his Russian counterpart President Dmitry Medvedev.
AdvertisementRussia has also agreed on the deployment of at least 200 EU observers in Georgia by the 1 October to monitor a ceasefire, ahead of talks on the conflict in Geneva later that month.
Meanwhile, President Saakashvili said he took exception to the increased use by diplomats of the term Georgia 'proper.'
