I see according to the Pirates website that they are ground sharing with Camborne at their Recreation Ground, with the Cherry and whites playing on a saturday and the Pirates on a sunday. What with this and this statement, "At this stage the decision to develop a stadium is totally unwise until the future of Premier Rugby and the constraints associated with Premiership status become clear. In the circumstances, it is felt that Camborne is the right place for us to be as we wait to see how things develop.", i still feel that the Pirates will revert back to playing at the Mennaye when all the upgrading is finished.
It's a rip off of the Pz & N second kit a few seasons back!! Yes 1549, the Pirates play in black and gold, the only thing is that the gold is next to the white where the red is on their first kit, anotherwords, it's only the stripes down the sides.
Re Cornish Pirates win against Otley: A paragraph from the match report from one of the two (?) Otley web sites says, "Then came a decision causing embarrassment to the home crowd when the referee ignored a tremendous knock on by Pirates winger Jonathan Hylton, allowing him to regather, run through a non-existent defence before handing the ball on to a surprised Barrett to score. Di Bernardo converted to distort the final score."
Is it sour grapes or true or just one of they things that d'appen?
AND from the Pirates web site: "SUMMER signing Alberto Di Bernardo has called on his Cornish Pirates team-mates to build on Sunday's impressive victory over Otley with more of the same at Waterloo this weekend.
"I really enjoyed the game," said Di Bernardo, who has represented both Argentina and Italy at A level. "It was my first go at English rugby, so it was nice to start with a win. "
I think DB needs some education about which country he's in!?
It was not a knock on by Hilton because the ball hit his chest and rebounded in front of him, the ref indicated immediately to play on, Hilton then picked up the ball ran through the Otley defence and slipped the ball inside for Barratt to score.
As for DB well he is playing in English rugby as the league the Pirates are playing in is the English National League Division 1.
Most defeinitely a Cornish team in the English Premiership. The rugby is much better overall (Munster, Scarletts excepted), the crowds are certainly much higher than the Celtic league and it's so much easier for the travelling support to get to games. Plus there is a lot more TV exposure in the GP meaning more sponsorship could be attracted.
Most defeinitely a Cornish team in the Celtic League for all the right reasons ie political not the cheap reasons kenwyn lists for staying in the anglo league.
Regarding Cornish Pirates game against Newbury on Sunday- did Newbury have more Cornish born players than the CP in their team?
As a Pirates fan I want to see them playing in the best league possible and at the moment, whether you like it or not Ian, that is the Guiness Premiership. You obviously have no thought for the fans when you say my reasons for staying in the English league are cheap. Sod politics for once choose the best option for both the Pirates and the fans. How many fans from the poorest part of the country will be able to afford to go away to Munster, Leinster, Connaught, Ulster, Glasgow, Edinburgh? Give me Plymouth, Exeter or, if we achieve promotion, Worcester, Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, before those long trips in the Celtic league.
