According to Penryn's website, the game was scheduled for the 27th, but I've been unable to find a result anywhere so far.
To answer Andy's query, I don't believe they do sell replica shirts (as yet), but they do offer jackets....I was rather disappointed not to find one under the tree on Sunday! While I'm here, Andy, have you seen Plymouth Albion's website? They've got some rather old-fashioned ideas regarding club names
Further to my earlier posting, I caught sight of the West Briton earlier (and he caught sight of me too  ) Anyway, I seem to remember something along the lines of Penryn 38 Falmouth 5 or possibly 35 - 8...anyway The Borough caned Falmouth. If the league tables are any guide, we at The Mennaye won't enjoy the pleasure of watching Penryn put to the sword next season - it's looking as though Bay will go up & Penryn will drop!
Thanks for that Stonefly, it will put a smile on my fathers face, hes here in Australia on holiday for 3 months and feels totally isolated not knowing whats going on in the good ole CORNWALL 8) 8) 8)
It took me ages to get him to cross the Tamar, old school mate
It would be a sad day if Penryn dropped, 100% record and over a 1000 pts scored, but if they are out of there league at the moment then it won't do them any harm, they have enough young players coming through.
Anyway, I hope you all have a great New Year, where ever you happen to be in the world.
*LOL*
Very interesting this. I'm not a big fan of Rugby but as a general sports fan, I will always support my home town club, as will anyone else I would have thought.
Imagine a Cornish Pirates cup match versus your local club. I'm not changing my support . To expect the Pirates to replace our county championship ambassadors, is not going to happen, though just about every sports fan in Kernow wishes them well . The only way for Cornwall to regain the " International " support it has recieved it the past...........is to play as a Nation in International matches and in International competitions.
Exactly SaneMan, although i'm a Cornish Pirates supporter (mainly because they were born from Pz & N) i do have many reservations about the future of the club. For example as i have said previously, what would happen if another millionare ploughed his money into say Lanson, Truro or Redruth for example and they eventually got to the same stage as the Pirates wether it was divison 1 or the Premiership. The whole of the Duchy would not be supporting the Pirates if another club was coming on strong through the leagues just as the Pirates did as Pz & N.
The Pirates will never replace the national side of Kernow no matter what, even if the County championship was stopped. As you and i on many occasions have said, we all have loyalties to our local Rugby clubs as well as our Kernewek national side. The fact that the Kernewek people are going to support the Pirates instead of a Kernewek VX is never going to happen for the simple reason of the local club loyalties and the pride for the Black and Gold.
What Dicky Evans has done is brave and doing good for Kernow, but i disagree with the fact that staying as Pz & N and at the Mennaye, would not attract the crowds as Penwith is not a big enough catchment area. You don't have to live in Penwith to support Pz & N, i live in Liskeard ( Okay, i'm a Sennen lad), there are plenty of people who live in different parts of Kernow and England, who aren't Penzance or Newlyn born, but still support them and would go to the Mennaye to watch them.
At the end of the day i hope the Pirates do have success and get that goal of the Premiership and European rugby, but i would dearly love it to be as Pz & N again but i don't think that's going to happen.
A great win for the Pirates and Rhodri MacAtee who scored a hat trick of tries. I was watching BBC Spotlight and the sports newsreader pronounced it Mackaty. Seems like they have trouble pronouncing all Celtic names, not just Kernewek!!
In 1908, one of only three times that rugby was in the Olympics, the British team was the entire Cornwall squad, chosen just after they won the County Championships. Although they lost in the final to Australia, they are the only British rugby team to have won Olympic silver.
Just listened to the match on the web, excellent win for us but a very tight game. Newbury deserved to get a few more points on the board and gave us a hell of a match, but we came through as victors at the end of the day and still stay second in the table.
