A bit of breaking news on the Cornish language front. Dr Nicholas Williams is now Professor Nicholas Williams.

What does das mean and is Luke someones name?

*hiss* Luke, dha das ov vy...

"Luke, I am your father." (Think Darth Vader.)

das = tas (father) with second state mutations t->d following dha (your).

Conan here's one for you, why have MK never approached FUEN and their Cornish vice president?

Regarding what precisely?
As a general rule because FUEN is not party political MK conducts all its European activities through the EFA. If there is a requireemnt to contact the council of Europe we have plenty of contacts that allow this to happen.

I can also clarify that MK has plenty of contact with Nigels brother Graeme Hicks through his political activities on Kerrier District Council - so if there is anything pressing that Nigel would wish MK to approach him about that he thought was possible to achieve I'm sure he would be able to contact the party.

PS before the advent of EFA, MK were the Cornish organisation that provided membership of FUEN. The CSP have since taken over that role being non-party political and therefore more appropriate.

QuoteIf there is a requirement to contact

Have you contacted the COE about the funding for Cornish or the national minority issue?

QuoteMK were the Cornish organisation that provided membership of FUEN.

How active were MK in this role?

If i have your attention just two more things.

The e-mail contact for MK on the MK website is not working and the link for the Cornish Constitutional Convention dosen't work either.

Hi Fulub
Just tested the email and it seems to be working fine. The link for the CC website is broken as they have recently cahnged their URL. I'll pass this on to our Web guy.

RE: FUEN MK established links with FUEN many years ago back in the 70s? or maybe earlier than that. Links were dropped I believe back in the early 90s after EFA was becoming more established - so we haven't been active in FUEN for quite some time.

RE COE
We are in the process of organising a petition about these issues with COE. It was discussed initially with our european reps at the EFA conference in Brussels in the middle of May this year. We will be moving this forward as quickly as possible.

But anyway as Flamnew mentioned an umbrella organisation that regrouped all the language bodies and where possible pointed them in the same direction for combined effort could only be a great and positive thing.

I have suggested in the past that a similar larger Umbrella group that brought together all in the Cornish movement to fight on important issues like the language or FCFTPONM would be a step forward, but is it really possible that the CSP, MK, the Constitutional Convention, some Lib Dems, some Independents, the Gorsedd, the Celtic league plus any number of other cultural organisations and individuals (J Angarrack) would all sit down at the same table?

FCFTPONM?

I was actually thinking about all of the Cornish movemnt groups, not just the language. The Gorsedd is so stuck in the past that it's never going to change and if it doesn't modernise very, very soon I fear it'll become a total irrelevance and possibly collapse. I'm disappointed that it isn't putting its weight behind the move towards a SWF by pledging to use whichever one is selected - but there are too many old timers running the show who don't want to change the format one iota for that to happen.

But I digress. My idea for a loose conglomeration would be for the groups not to have to agree 100% with each other, just to agree to put more effort into supporting each other's campaigns and other efforts where they coincide. Perhaps some sort of memorandum of understanding between the groups to support each other rather than a binding agreement would be the way to go.
