Chemical plant clean up
The Ministry of Defence's official proposals to clean up a former chemical weapons base on the north Cornish coast will be handed to Cornwall County Council on Monday.
The former dump sites at Nancekuke at RAF Portreath are to be excavated and harmful materials taken away and incinerated. Material that remains will be put back into the ground and covered up.
The MoD said it was confident a specially designed protective building over the site would prevent any substances from escaping.
Kerrier councillor Pat Aston said she hoped the remedial works would draw to a close the mystery surrounding what went on at the site in the past.
