The camel weather vane that sits atop the town hall in the North Cornwall town of Camelford. The town is named after the river flowing through it, the river Camel. Unsurprisingly, this name is not derived from the humped beasts found in deserts. It is thought the name comes from 'cam' meaning crooked, 'alan' meaning beautiful and ford, which became contracted to Camelford.
