Re: Cornwall Council Privatisation

If you are talking about the initial Cabinet meeting, the vote was:
'the Cabinet voted to process with the plans for Shared Services. Only Councillor Kaczmarek voted against, with Councillor Currie abstaining.'

Re: Cornwall Council Privatisation

It's well known that Lavery used to be CEO of Serco Solutions and that Serco controls a siceable slice of the service delivery in Cornwall. One of the two companies shortlisted by the Council for the 'public/private partnership' is BT - where Lavery used to have a very senior position as Director of...

Re: The Duchy Of Cornwall - Penzance Harbour Threatened By C

Potentially good news for Penzance Harbour - the well run Cornwall Council Harbours Board has voted to take over management of Penzance Harbour from 1st April next year. This is what the Port of Truro looks like under their management: http://www.portoftruro.co.uk/commercial/ Chairman of the Board R...

Re: Can Cornwall Trust the 3 Tory MPs?

Meanwhile, the Localism Act so beloved of Cornwall's maverick Tory MPs has delivered a very serious blow to democracy in Cornwall. From now on all Town and Parish Councillors are committing a criminal act if they do not list personal financial details about themselves and even their spouses/partners...

Re: Can Cornwall Trust the 3 Tory MPs?

Excellent blogpost from Coserg: Comment: One of the main reasons why Cornwall needs its own Assembly is so it can plan, develop and evolve in such a way as to meet the needs of its people. Developing policies based on what is relevant, meaningful and appropriate for Cornwall rather than following po...

Re: Can Cornwall Trust the 3 Tory MPs?

Unfortunately for them, and for Cornwall, the maverick pair, Eustice and Newton have been littering the Western Morning News today with their jibberish. They try to backpedal from their previous ill-advised and divisive rants but only serve to entrench themselves further: http://www.thisiscornwall.c...

Re: Kevin Heaney

And quite possibly not only cash?

Many, many people are 'cynical' about Cllr Mike Varney, the 'Member Champion for Planning' and Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee - who apparently lives in a Wain Home.

Map of Indo-European Languages, including Cornish

Interesting new research shows the evolution of words across 103 modern and extinct languages from the Indo-European language family and has created a useful tree showing the relationships among the different languages, including Cornish: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/08/24/science/0824-or...

Re: Can Cornwall Trust the 3 Tory MPs?

Exactly Roger, well said. And Wales too is thriving and full of confidence - and keeping its young people within its borders. Meanwhile, we have Sheryll Murray's imbecilic bleatings on Twitter today revealing her agreement with her fellow collaborators and her complete ignorance of politics in Cornw...

Re: Can Cornwall Trust the 3 Tory MPs?

Errhmm: "These people are just trotting out the line written for them by London." .....That's OK then, they're 'good ol' things' after all. Perhaps they can now just carry on touting their belief about Cornwall being (in their words) isolationist and espousing the politics of victimhood - and how ra...

Re: Can Cornwall Trust the 3 Tory MPs?

"They're nice people" "They didn't write it themselves" "London decides what they do". Crumbs, the apologists for this pair of wreckers are out in force. These two are highly paid individuals who's elected duty is to make the strongest case they can for Cornwall and for their constituencies – and to...

Can Cornwall Trust the 3 Tory MPs?

Today's Western Morning News front page article: Cornwall must reject the politics of "victimhood and isolationism" by ditching the campaign for a devolved Cornish assembly, two Conservative MPs say today. Duchy MPs say it's time to ditch campaign for devolved assembly in favour of 'looking outwards...
