Re: George Eustice

Eustice did not 'win'. More voters voter for parties of the left than anything (or in the case of the Liberals, thought they were).

I seem to recall that Mudd talked the talk but when it came to resisiting Thatcher and (indeed) Heath as a Minister he did not walk the walk.

Re: Time for protests on Border ?

there is a fundemental issue which is being missed here. We have the most regressive, right wing government perhaps ever. Six of its MPs are drawn from Cornwall. The 'Liberal Democrats' amongst them are all but silent on the issue of cuts. The cuts will devastate the economy of Cornwall and its soci...

Re: George Eustice

Seb Coe, Candy Atherton, Julia Goldsworthy, George Eustice. For Christ sake Camborne, Redruth, Falmouth and Cornwall deserve better.

Re: George Eustice

Eustice should not be considering supporting the enabling legislation if it means that the territorial integrity of Cornwall will be compromised. His final paragraph shows that he does not understand the AV system which in fact would help MK. Public spending cuts will really damage the Cornish econo...

Re: Independent councillor defects to MK

Good point Tean but people voted tactically to keep the Tories out. It was always generally accepted that the Liberals were a left of centre party. They betrayed their voters by their decision in May.

Re: Independent councillor defects to MK

Cracking. This will start in earnest though the by-election issue as committe balance will surely change as the MK group gets bigger?

Re: Cornish independence

Cornwall wants devolution not independence. De Savery and probably ING will just have turned Hayle into yuppiville with few or no good jobs for locals. Hopefully Heartlands in Pool will become a quality 'theme park' and so much more which will meet what you say...and I know what you are getting at w...

Re: Independent councillor defects to MK

Where the electorate voted Lib Dem to keep the Tories out should there be 57 by-elections?

Should the Independents resign on Cornwall Councl and fight by-elections as they are supporting a minority Tory administration.

Neil Plummer's defection will hardly rock the Council!

Re: Cornish Constitutional Convention-10th Anniversary-July

Its pretty pointless starting your own business when other businesses will be going down the pan because of cuts inb state spending. Kerow, this is cloud cookoo land.

Re: Cornish Constitutional Convention-10th Anniversary-July

Kerow. I realise that the levels of state spending are unsustainble but change like this has to be planned. Lavery and others appear to have to no strategy for the consequences of job losses. Change on this scale will also do immense damage to the private sector and, overall, damage Cornwall's compe...

Re: Cornish Constitutional Convention-10th Anniversary-July

Right on Graham. The unitary would have worked had not the economy collapsed and the Council could not sell off its surplus properties, but then you think if they want to get all those people in county hall they wont have to worry about it if they are going to sack loads so why do they need to spend...

Re: Cornish Constitutional Convention-10th Anniversary-July

Balderdash. Spending cuts on this scale to these things are not needed. Government is cuting the wrong things or not raising revenue in the right way and this is having a knock on effect on Cornwall Council. You seem to be suggesting that people and and the people who rely on the Council (contractor...

Re: Cornish Constitutional Convention-10th Anniversary-July

Bloody stupid that devolution should be the key to making spending cuts. There will see be a further 2000 people and their families on the dole, plus the knok on effect. How popular will a Cornish assembly be as a 'commisioning body', employing a lot less people and contracting companies from outsid...
