Re: Mermaid of Zennor song

Thank you for the help that came indirectly for this post. The person who asked me to try to find it has the words and music via Merv Davey and a copy of the book is on it's way through the library Service.

Mermaid of Zennor song

Here's a challenge!! I've been asked to try to find a book, 'Cornwall Folk Songs for Today', or ' Canow an Weryn Hedhyu', published in 1979 by Inglis Gundry. Each year at the An Gof Ceremony in Sty. Keverne, the children in the village perform something based in Cornish tradition; this year its the ...

Re: Adders!!

While I take on board the comments that were posted regarding Adders a few weeks ago; some of us love our dogs and hate to see them in distress caused by being bitten; I just want to add, that I've heard of 3 dogs being bitten out Godrevy/Gwitian over last few days. Odd, as it's been so cold and wet...

Re: Adders!!

The mention of the vile things, makes me shudder!! I know when one has an experience such as this, you tend to hear accounts; however, my dog was bitten on Flora day, and since, one friend has seen four on the cliff path from Coverack to Blackhead, and the most startling was a cow that was bitten on...

Adders!!

Have any of you noticed more adders about this year? Mt dog had a very nasty bite a couple of weeks ago and since, so many people have told me about seeing more than usual out on the downs and on the cliff paths. To help get the experience out of my system and with practical help, I've written about...

Re: Archiving Brenda Wootton

We listened to the CD today which, we think will go into the Cornish Library in Redruth. Some great reminders of the 'old days'. Doro, Tryphenia Tremary, Betsy Watson...rolling back the years...

Archiving Brenda Wootton

'Morning all, Some of you will know that we released a CD of Brenda Wootton .www.brendawootton.com, a while ago and since then we are asked frequently about old albums such as those recorded at Sentinel which are out of 'print' now; however, last week we were sent a recording of Brenda with Robert B...

Re: Thomasina Bonaventure

Thanks for the link TGG. The project is something to do with this summer's An Gof celebration in St. Keverne and having spoken to my friend again she doesn't know is there is a specific song, just enquired if there was something that will be appropriate for the school children to learn about women i...

Now this really is a challenge! Back in the 15thC a shepherdess from Bude became lady mayoress of London - this was after three marriages - a friend has asked me ( why me!!) if I know anyone who might know the words to a song about this lady. My reply, " I don't, but I may know several men who might...

Re: What defines an English Person?

Now, now, Marhak...'tis the season to be jolly and brimming with goodwill....I'm English, but having served 2/3 of my life in Cornwall and I'm neither ignorant or lacking in courtesy..bit of a sweeping statement don't you think?

Re: Anyone know a song 'Sound, Sound'?

I Googled, " Cornish Carol, Sound, Sound your instruments of joy' and this Youtube came up, also, put in lyric for the same title and found all the words. I hadn't heard it before either, but sung by a choir will be lovely.
