Re: Jim Pengelly - TGG

This is most sad news. I only ever met Jim once or twice but we had many very interesting conversations by email. Jim was an expert on the constitutional status of the Duchy and a true Cornish patriot. He will be sorely missed.

Re: The organic myth of the British constitution

Fulub-le-Breton wrote: What is the territory associated with this parliamentary sovereignty?
Actually Parliamentary sovereignty extends everywhere. Parliament can, in theory, 'ban smoking on the streets of Paris'.

Of course enforcing this would be a problem - never mind the international furore!

Well if it's ignorance it doesn't say a lot for the quality of Labour candidates really - does it?

Re: What does Cornish self-determination mean to you?

Does any state have ultimate control over their economy? Global capitalism means that it is the big corporations that control things just as much as government. All countries look to foreign corporations 'investing' in their economy and 'ceating jobs'. How would an autonomous Cornwall have any less ...

Re: Keep Devon Away From Our Cornwall!

Leaving aside the confusion between county and country in your article (which others will doubtless be kind enough to elucidate), there is nothing to thank the Liberal Democrats for. Nothing, unless it is praiseworthy to vote against an issue that they had previously voted for simply to gain revenge...

English rules of succession

Can any of the experts on the Duchy Charters shed any light on what would happen if Kate has a daughter and then a son? Is the Duke of Cornwall the heir to the English throne or the first male son of the English monarch? Could it be that in the future the Duke of Cornwall would not be the heir to th...

Re: Cornwall Councillors Give Themselves A 20% Pay-Rise

But are they really or do they need to be full time Conan? Is there REALLY a need for a Councillor to sit through each and all parish council meetings? Some meetings Councillors attend have little point to them regarding their contribution. A lot of the problem is the way that we do things in this ...

Re: Cornwall Councillors Give Themselves A 20% Pay-Rise

It will be interesting to see how many who voted against the rise offer to forego the increase or give up their allowance altogether. I know one councillor voted for the rise said that he did so because it was necessary for some councillors but said that he wouldn't be taking the increase himself. T...

Re: Cornwall Councillors Give Themselves A 20% Pay-Rise

A rise of 20% in one year certainly could not be justified but the fact is that this is the first time in four years that the allowance for councillors has increased and it is unlikely now to go up again in the next four years. When would there ever be a good time for councillors to raise allowances...

Re: The Bristol Pound. A Cornish Pound ?

It seems to me that all of the schemes are just 'gift vouchers' of some kind. They are not currency in any real meaning of the word. That's not to say that the various schemes may not be excellent ideas and very well worth the effort - but they aren't currency and rely entirely on the good will of t...

Re: Republic threat to Cornwall

A Cornish Assembly is far more important than the Republican cause. As much as I believe that any unelected monarchy is anti-democratic, it is just as anti-democratic for a republic to deny any nation their right to self-determination. As the France/Brittany situation shows, being a republic doesn't...
