Re: Domesday Trebah... Marhak?

Interesting to bring up was a bit bemused how the name could go from Trebaya to a longer form. So I had a quick look on the net and on the Trebah garden site http://www.trebahgarden.co.uk/garden/garden-history.html there is a download of a more detailed history it says, to quote: "The first historic...

Re: tourism lobby cementing support

It's 'the same old chestnut', I'm afraid - trying to find fault with the one of the counties major industries. It is vital for the county, Cornwall would be in a total mess if it wasn't for tourism. Maybe so I don't really think so contributing 25% GDP and 10% workforce it's not as big as many peop...

Re: tourism lobby cementing support

Since writing the blog this morning both Andrew Wallis and Alex Folkes have both commented to say that it was not in fact a resturant trip with the a full blown meal and wine and instead was a cookery demonstration. I still think the same thinking applies see here if you're interested http://robscor...

tourism lobby cementing support

Hi I have blogged about the behaviour of councillors, namely being wined and dined by tourist chiefs. "tourism tax don't hold your breath or how good food buys influence" http://robscornishblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/tourism-tax-dont-hold-you-breath-or-how.html I don't really have much more to say on ...

Re: Keep Cornwall Whole

I understand your positon Graham and I think we have to accept that many people both in Cornwall and the Coaliton don't believe that Cornwall's border is not a special case. As you have said the argument does tend to focus upon emotional arguments of identity, I have blogged about this before as I b...

Re: Lib Dems in the Duchy in crisis - any information anyone

From what I understand there's definatley a crisis within the Lib Dem support in Cornwall, I don't know about councillors etc. But there does seem to be some party members not renewing membership. Also with voters I know a few people -that despite my pleading- decided to vote LD and have since gone ...

Re: Please bann Marhak

It's spelt 'ban', so that people don't accidentally pre-occlude. The fact also, that he has gone with the nn and not dn shows that this guy is a real troublemaker :ugeek: obviously intent on causing ructions and a long and winding debate about the formation and development of our native tongue.

Re: What a damned cheek!

To be honest Stephen the WMN are just spouting there usual pro Westcountry/ Devonwall spiel. They're tryin to say that there is scepticism when there actually isn't that much. Read for yourself the IOD s press release it's only concern is with business engagment. They're just worried they're not tap...

Re: Duchy pay its own way? Now there's a thought ....

The intention of my FOI request was to try to open the can of worms that is the Duchy and its fiscal responsibilities or lack thereof. It was therefore a coincidence that I learnt that Cornwall Council are already asking the Duchy about funding lifeguard cover on beaches owned by the Duke. Whether C...

Re: Duchy pay its own way? Now there's a thought ....

The Duchy owns all Cornish foreshore including that of our beaches, and the bed and waters of all Cornish rivers (Duchy v Crown 1855-59 and nothing has changed that). Nor is the Duchy allowed by its own Charters to sell off its assets so, no matter who else might claim to own such areas, they don't...

Re: Duchy pay its own way? Now there's a thought ....

Interesting factoid Cormorant well done. You do realise that that wasn't the prime point I was trying to hammer home? See for example this http://www.rnli.org.uk/who_we_are/press_centre/news_releases/news_release_detail?articleid=485186 The story is about extended lifeguard cover on Cornish and Devo...

Re: Duchy pay its own way? Now there's a thought ....

Thanks for putting my blog on here Stephen and I did enjoy your Keep Cornwall Whole post the other day. Interesting, but ,(in one area at least Stephen), completely wrong. "It also transpires that the council are currently reviewing some of their arrangements regarding lifeguard cover. Cornwall Coun...

Re: What Direction Now For MK ?

I think this is an exciting time for Mebyon Kernow, I think there are problems with connecting with the voters, the issue of credibility and selling the idea of Cornish nationalism. But lets not forget that MK can easily become the party of opposition in Cornwall. The Tory and Lib Dems are in power ...
