Re: BBC Cornwall interview about An Beybel Sans

Because it's not the 16th Century any more. People who believe that this Bible is going to initiate a sea-change in the fortunes of the Cornish language are, quite frankly, living in a fantasy. Who do you think believes that? It's fantastic that it's been done Thank you for saying so. It was a lot ...

Re: BBC Cornwall interview about An Beybel Sans

Some questions: Does Cornish need a "literary standard"? Only if it hopes to survive. Should or will it be the bible? I don't know. The Bible is a definitive text. It is not used by everyone, but it is used by many on a regular basis. Should or will it be this bible? Who can say? It is a definitive...

Alys y'n vro a varthusyon

Has anyone got a copy of the first 1990 edition of this? I have Ray Edwards' third 1994 edition.

Didn't bother this year.
Probably much to the relief of everyone that worked hard to put it on.
And everyone that attended too!
Is there really a need for the gratuitous incivility, PieterCharles?

Re: An Beybel Sans in Kernowek (The Holy Bible in Cornish)

Speaking of literature, Keith, did you read Devocyon dhe Greryow ? Or Enys Tresour ? I know you made sure not to read Alys in Pow an Anethow . (You don't like Victorian-age English literature. Or the fact that the price of the book was less than that of Ray Edwards' book. Or whatever excuse it was.)

It's literature. Belief is of no consequence. Do you believe that Scotty beams Kirk up?

Re: An Beybel Sans in Kernowek (The Holy Bible in Cornish)

I received today a number of cheques which had been sent to Andy Phillips in Newlyn from Benefactors and Subscribers to An Beybel Sans... Many contributors sent in personal notes of congratulation with their cheques. It really is gratifying to have seen so much support for the project. Although the ...

The SWF/T is just as leaky and shot through with KK vocalic construals as the SWF/K is.

Re: An Beybel Sans in Kernowek (The Holy Bible in Cornish)

I can see one difference - when Nance made up his word, there was a need for a word, there was no standardised orthography, and the revival had barely started. When Nicholas made up his word, we already had a word, there already was a process of standardisation and consensus, and the revival was we...

Re: An Beybel Sans in Kernowek (The Holy Bible in Cornish)

I am not quibbling over one word - I am saying that Beybel is just one example of the linguists going too far with their theories and tinkering, and unnecessarily causing yet more fractures in the revival. Have you other examples? It's just one example of a unilateral decision made by a single ling...

Re: An Beybel Sans in Kernowek (The Holy Bible in Cornish)

Given the way the Dan (Morvil) has gone out of his way to support a compromise solution, more sincerely perhaps than almost anyone else, it's not encouraging to see Michael constantly refusing to give him any quarter. Falsehood. I do not object to spelling the two lexical items bîbel and beybel (SW...
