Re: Alex Salmond ignores Cornwall!

You and whose army Graham? They're going to need Cornwall to store the nuclear warheads after they're kicked out of Scotland. If I were you I'd start organising your 'troops' now. Images of Dad's Army come to mind. It shouldn't be like that but really Cornish nationalism is too pathetic for words :-(

Re: English Is Not Enough from the Wessex Regionalists

I always understood that Wessex was the core from which England as we know it grew. The rest of the Heptarchy having been seriously trashed by the Danes. Wessex took over what was left of Mercia, Middlesex, Sussex etc., and worked out a way to co-exist with the Danelaw. Wasn't then a Danish king Knu...

Re: Cornwall Council Sitting on £30 Million.

Your video is about USA government accounting practise. Please justify your headline, e.g. a link to the Council a/cs. In general Councils and the central government are in the red, seriously so in the case of the UK.

Re: Create A Cornish Administration.

Gower @ The main problem is of course the inequality of wealth, i.e. of access to land, goods, services etc. The UK comes about second worst in the western world, after the USA. The people motivated to change the system are mostly the 'have nots' who by definition almost don't have the control of th...

Re: Create A Cornish Administration.

So far we agree, Graham. But my point is that many (most? all?) of us depend on government and commercial services and infrastructure just to get through the week. Only very exceptional and well placed individuals can cut all ties with 'the system'; for most the sacrifice would outweigh the benefits...

Re: Create A Cornish Administration.

True, but behind Graham's weird rhetoric there's a real problem, the subversion of anything resembling democracy by vested financial interests. Decisions affecting Cornwall, usually for the worst, are not made here, not by the people who will be affected. They're made in "The City" or wherever the p...

Re: Create A Cornish Administration.

So you're going to need resources. People, money (or its equivalent), land, buildings, energy sources, food sources, use of infrastructure, admin skills ... and of course "If you live outside the law, you've gotta be honest". So show us your plan. A Cornish independence white paper maybe? How do you...

The UK government are not exactly wildly enthusiastic about devolving powers. See e.g. :

Re: Take down Waitrose

Sounds a bit Soviet, don't you think TGG, but yes, I get the general idea. So instead of forever ranting why don't you lay the foundations for whatever organisation(s) or institution(s) you think we should have. Wasn't there a constitutional convention or some such? Probably needs a good kick up the...

I'm sure they do. But the real question is, does Cornwall matter to them? Indeed does their vision of Cornwall even match yours?

Re: Cornish Language Nursery School project looking for fund

Actually I think it a pity that you've had to resort to "crowd sourcing" for this project. Crowd sourcing is a way of using the internet to raise largish sums from very many modest contributions, and is generally used for projects that will be of benefit or interest to very many people often over a ...

Re: STOP THE CORNISH GENOCIDE, NOW!

TGG @ I have no doubt that "Cornish genocide" as you define it has happened to a greater or lesser extent at various times in the past, and might well be continuing in an insidious low-key sneaky fashion at the present time. OTOH it might simply be that 'Cornishness' no longer has much attraction fo...

Re: STOP THE CORNISH GENOCIDE, NOW!

Gower @ Please show us your evidence that there is increasing demand for Cornish autonomy, what an inspiration that would be! More to the point perhaps, what steps are being taken to achieve this end, whether political, social, cultural, financial etc. My impression, and hence my depression, is that...
