Re: The case of factotum

Good question. Basically in the rather vain hope that I might needle someone in a position to do something to actually act. The problems have all been outlined over and over, solutions have been suggested, over and over. If I could see anything constructive going on I'd support it, but I don't. Why ...

Re: STOP THE CORNISH GENOCIDE, NOW!

Interesting, TGG, but it's hundreds of years too late to apply these ideas to the Cornish. Who are the Cornish? How would you recognise a Cornish person amongst a crowd of English people? If you can't recognise them, you can hardly discriminate against them, hence they are not recognised as a group ...

Re: Cornish Language Nursery School project looking for fund

Unless this is very carefully planned it will stall, and then possibly reflect badly on the language. You certainly need professional workers, not least to comply with all the regulations etc., but beyond that, on the language side you need fully fluent workers, not just in the general language, but...

Re: Cornish Language Nursery School project looking for fund

Surely this should be state supported under the terms of the ECRML? When is the next periodic report due, can't be long now.

Re: Record your Cornish identity on an Open Democracy survey

Well I'd be interested in seeing the actual entries, just out of curiosity to see how you manage to misconstrue things. In any case AFAIK neither 'republic' nor 'democracy' are legal terms, simply ordinary English words. Try the OED. And what relevance has this to anything, the UK has only ever been...

Re: Record your Cornish identity on an Open Democracy survey

Republic is a French word from Latin meaning something like "The things that belong to the people". It is generally used to describe countries that have done away with their monarchs. Democracy is Greek for "Rule by the common people". Graham, where do you get these idiot definitions from, more to t...

Re: One Small Victory for Cornish?

Hag yn kettermyn arte y'n ransh-ji ... or rather on the Spelly list, which has once again burst into activity ... the natives are restless. And I can see their point, MAGA are not taking the SWF review at all seriously and simply seem to be trying to brush the whole matter under the carpet as quickl...

Re: One Small Victory for Cornish?

I wonder if anyone knows what the situation actually is now. The major 'bribe' to get the various bodies co-opted to MAGA's agenda was the carrot of substantially more funding combined with 'Cornish in the schools'. More perhaps hints than actual promises though. You only need to look to the IoM, mu...

Re: UK stuck in dysfunctional feudal oligarchic mire

I think the problems have been pretty well publicised over many years. Trouble is, without an action plan to bring about change all most people will do, indeed all the really can do, is shrug their shoulders and carry on as usual. Typically British.

Re: English Defence League in Kernow (?)

Why should they be against Cornwall, surely another potential nail in the UK's coffin. Are then against the Welsh too? After all Wales was clearly 'abolished' by the Act of Union which made the Welsh constitutionally Englishmen. Cornwall otoh seems never to have been formally incorporated into Wesse...

Re: UK stuck in dysfunctional feudal oligarchic mire

Fulub, I've asked him more than once. You can't expect people to abandon the existing systems, even if they believe they are outright evil, unless you first provide alternatives. This is not easy, but neither is it impossible. It requires detailed understanding of the system (legal, financial, polit...

Re: UK stuck in dysfunctional feudal oligarchic mire

You and who's army Graham? They've got an army what have you got? How do you intend to 'look after yourself' (and hopefully also you friends and family etc.) when they control all the land and resources. Where do you get your 3% from? Three percent in open revolt would be crushed before tea time. Th...

Re: UK stuck in dysfunctional feudal oligarchic mire

Which just makes me wonder why the English, not to mention the Cornish haven't followed the Scots example and established and voted in parties that actually represent their needs and aspirations. Clearly they somehow enjoy being ruled over and talked down to, by upper-class twits. Problem for Cornwa...
