Mines of Far West Cornwall

Old Mines of West Cornwall

A short film exploring some of the finest old mines along the north coast of West Cornwall. Towards the end of the 19th century the St Just mining industry made this landscape a frontier of the industrial revolution.

Little over a hundred years on and it is hard to imagine the hive of activity this stretch of rugged coast would have been. Gone are the miners, the noise and a way of life. All that remains are the decaying engine houses and mine workings that seem as much a part of the Cornish landscape as any cliff or cove.

Places like Botallack, Kenidjack Valley and Carn Galva are now often places of solitude. However, there is no shortage of atmosphere at these locations and hopefully a little of this is conveyed in this little film.
