Shiner...if choose to do dangerous sports, shoot up drugs or gash youself on broken glass breaking into someone's home then feckless, stupid and evil are appropriate adjectives. Graham labelling me as right wing....is it right wing that the most deserving in society should be denied treatment because scant resources are going into the above? Pretty much where the 'left' has lost faith with its own natural people I would say. Smokers fall into the dangerous sports category - ironically.

Graham can have his smoking dens if he wants, but I should not have to pick up the tab for the health impact.

Seems a bit extreme.

By your account we'd have mountaineers lying screaming on the Cornish cliffs, rugby players crawling the streets with torn ligaments, petty thieves bleeding to death in gardens, pilots rotting away in hedgerows and Graham Hart and Alister competing against each other in the new stadium for Cornwall's 100 a day spliff toking marathon.

Not sure how smoking falls in the category of sport either. Would training sessions take place on board duty free trips to France?

Then there's the obese people. There's probably more people sick due to a life time of eating the crap western diet than all dangerous sports (including smoking) put together. What are you going to do with them? Ban all open heart surgery caused by high fat diets? Refuse insulin to those who got diabetes from a life time on a high sugar diet? Ban liver and kidney transplants to heavy drinkers?

What about motorists in road accidents, should we leave them bleeding to death on the hard shoulder of motorways because just about everyone drives over 70 mph?

What sort of society do you anticipate in your ultra safe world? One where everyone walks round in padded suits at no more than 2 miles an hour?

At least National Insurance contributions should go down making it easier to afford the crash helmets we'll need to pop round the neighbours house for a cup of sterilised herbal tea (without sugar and milk).

:-)

The NHS is a Socialist institution.

Graham Hart and Allister competing against each other in the new stadium for Cornwall's 100 a day spliff toking marathon.

Now that sounds like a challenge 8-)

Not to mention the biggest killer of all. The stress caused by a society that steadily increases demands and undue pressures upon the people, as well as frightening them to death by exaggerating scare stories almost daily in the Press.

Who is tackling this killer disease and its causes? No one, of course. To do so would be to imperil fat cat profiteering.

Marhak: my vehicle doesn't.

And Shiner if people want to participate in dangerous activities (which are often financially costly) they can stick their hands in their pockets to insure themselves. Allowing for the fact that this country is badly run and taxes sqaundered; we cannot afford the luxury of paying for self inflicted health problems.

Thieving is not as petty as you make out. A criminal who takes from your property has violated you - they should not be there, they take that risk.

A famous ex footballer who had drunk himself silly all his adult life, despite fabulous talent and riches, was given a new liver, a second chance and wasted it. No.

Dont forget there is a difference between what we choose to do in life and what we have to do.

I'm glad it doesn't, Zennorman. Now lecture your friends and colleagues whose cars do run on diesel on behalf of those of us who don't want to inhale fumes that are far more deadly than tobacco smoke. We have rights, too.

I agree, and we had proper rights i.e. the right to blow them away with a shotgun if they break in our homes then there wouldn't be the issue of who's going to pay for their medical treatment. Just a small fee at the crem. :-)

You have the right to use "reasonable force", but nothing more.

Amusingly, someone did exactly that. They were sat in their shed, with a loaded shotgun, and fired it through the door of the shed at someone trying to get in. Severely injuring them. The would be burglar successfully sued the shed owner.

Car fumes do not make your clothes and hair stink.

It has been proven that smoking kills.

Open house on Graham's property. Break in and he will give you a cup of tea and a cigarette. ;-)
