St Martyns Rd Looe propsed 3 month closure

Post by Fancyabrew » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:43 pm

I know many on here like a good fight, and there are some people who know a lot about planning issues. So please take a look at http://fightlooeroadclosure.wordpress.com/ (there is also a facebook page)

To cut a long story short Barret homes are building a new housing estate on the outskirts of Looe, there is already traffic control on site but (mainly down to SWW) Barret want to close St Martyns Rd for 3 months from Jan. This road is the main access road in to Looe and the only road that connects the Barbican area of Looe with the town itself. The Barbican is home to both Looe Comp and primary school, several large housing estates and a large OAP population. The proposed diversion is 6 miles around! And some of the diversion is only single track and already carries quite a large volume of traffic in to Looe in its own right.

Now the planning application for the development did not show the full extent of the works, or make clear the need to close the road, so residence of Looe and surrounding villages have only just got wind of this and aren’t happy!

So if you have any ideas on how to help take a look at the website.

cheers

This is an absolute disgrace. Not only does Countryside Destruction Unlimited have permission to concrete over fields outside Looe, now there is this crazy idea of closing a main road. Why was this not raised when planning permission was sought? All power to the protesters!
