Cornish Shopping

Post by seanjack37 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:37 am

Cornish shops to visit? I am heading down to Cornwall for the summer and would like people to suggest stores or areas that I must visit and shop?

There's

http://www.thecornishstore.com/shopfabout

In Falmouth.

Roberts & Luke's in Truro are closed, but Mallets is still there on Victoria Square (although under new management).

And then there's the Gwynn Ha Du store - 4, The Arcade, Fore Street, in Liskeard

Hope that helps.

Depends what you're looking for SeanJack37. All the major towns have local privately owned shops and as with all towns of compatible size in England have the usual range of nationals.
Places like Sennen, Marazion, Padstow, St. Ives, Bude and Boscastle are ideal places to visit if you are looking for some original art.

Helpful territorial/constitutional/geographical orientational note for the benefit of seanjack37:
KernowEagleEyedSternPurpleRinseStenographicals has helpfully pointed out a typo in Trevorpen's post:
'in England' should have read '
over in England'.
Note for seanjack37 for future reference: Trevorpen has an unfortunately recidivist habit of omitting such key words in his haste to post. Perhaps Trevorpen would like KernowEagleEyedSternPurpleRinseStenographicals to take him in hand for a change to rescue him from self-induced long term blindness...

I would imagine that he takes himself in hand....quite regularly.

What TeamKernow means is we have similar international chains in our main town high streets, here in Cornwall, as you do in England...

I thought he/she said he/she was coming to Cornwall, not some "county" you would find over the border in England.
Everyone, Cornish or otherwise, has their own particular part to play. No part is too great or too small; no one is too old or too young to do something.

Interesting that Trev hasn't yet commented on the genetic news. Or really said much about Cornwall's flag flying distinct from England's (but in the same group of home national flags) on the royal barge a fortnight ago.

But you're not though, are you Trev? You've achieved exactly what you always set out to do - deliberately antagonise like the major Troll that you are. A little rancid bait on the hook and sit back and wait for the inevitable reaction.
Like some sad old drunken Uncle at a family wedding, you can't help but embarrass yourself by resorting to the same tired old wind-ups. The only positive to be gained from the endless dross you serve up is to highlight the paucity of your ''little Englander'' stance to any casual reader of this forum.
Don't you ever get tired of having your ass handed to you on a plate, or ''pwned'' as the kids would say, every time you rashly decide to share with the board yet another one of your pearls of wisdom? Please, for everyones sake, wouldn't it be better if you could find another hobby? :)

Unfortunately "Gwynn ha Du" in Liskeard closed some years ago.

So now we have a genuine question about shopping and areas to visit in the county and the usual culprits come up with the utter nonsense that somehow Cornwall has suddenly become a country.
There is a reason why other Cornish websites have healthy discussion forums and this has the same old group whom only wish to contribute irrelevant nonsense.....
Can we now get back to the question asked by 'seanjack37' ?
It would be nice to have some more contributors with intelligent answers, making a healthy discussion.

KernowEagleEyedSternPurpleRinseStenographicals has spotted yet more typos by left handed one finger typist Trevorpen. The above should apparently more correctly read: ' I hope you appreciated the helpful, constructive and truthful comments from the usual helpful contributors i.e Rosko ( Mr Equanimious) and TeamKernow ( A highly creative, observant and knowledgeable collective generating much original content some of which may be viewed  HERE  and via  HERE  and at many other nooks and crannies of the internetty). I hope you enjoy your stay in the Celtic Nation and Duchy Of Cornwall and find the shops you are looking for. HERE  is an excellent and highly educational online Cornish bookshop.'

That sounds interesting, Trevorpen. Perhaps you will be kind enough to provide links to those alternative Cornish discussion forums which you regard so highly...

Its interesting that Seanjack notes that they are coming to Cornwall, not the 'westcountry' or 'the far south west'. They recognise the distinctiveness of place and that Cornwall may also have a distinct shopping offer if they come here..

As for Trevorpen he accuses Teamker of 'cut and paste' whereas I think Mr.Trevorpen is a 'cut in haste'.

And yes, I did miss out a letter.
