'This is Cornwall'' -and Cornwall @ the Olympics...

Post by Carbilly » Thu Jul 26, 2012 9:01 pm

The obvious glee with which this anti-Cornish site reported the fact that the Cornish flag was to be banned at the Olympics was matched only by - on news of the ban being overturned - the speed at which they removed all three offending articles. Will be interesting to see how rapid they are in reporting this volte face. Thanks go to 'Pirate FM' for their contribution - could never envisage 'Radio home-counties-on-sea' behaving in a similar vein.
It's also interesting to see their 'house style' at work when it comes to covering Cornish hopeful Helen Glover. The local rag 'The Cornishman' reports thus;
''PENZANCE'S Olympic gold medal hopeful Helen Glover has said the support she gets from the people of west Cornwall will give her an "extra ... Helen, right, proudly sports her St Piran's flag while rowing partner Heather ...''
Now, when it comes to the 'T.I.C' site, guess which bit is missing? Yep, got it in one, along with any reference to the word 'Cornish' (as per usual) in the whole article. Only surprised they didn't try and crowbar the obligatory 'Westcountry' or 'DevonandCornwall' into the piece.
Northcliffe really are an odious, Anglo-supremacist organisation who will never pass up an opportunity to denigrate and marginalise Cornish hopes and aspirations.

I just got a comment on TIC removed for writing "what a bloody shower". Or it might have been for describing Coe and his Coe-horts as "O-lymp-dics".

It's strange how Northcliffe's TIC had a good old crow about LOCOG banning the Cornish flag from being flown during events in which Cornish people are competing (but it was perfectly OK in several past Olympics from Sydney onwards)....but not a word about that ban being lifted in just a few hours under heavy pressure from this side of the Amazon (which is full of St Piranhas, by the way).

As for the Mail, and others, binding on about Welshmen Giggs and Bellamy, and the Scottish woman footballer not singing that awful dirge of a song (which is not an anthem but a simpering glorification of a monarch of foreign extraction) - why the hell should they? They're there to play football, not take part in a choral event!

The Mail failed to include a mention that several English players weren't singing it, either.

And why should any Scot sing an anthem whose full version includes a nasty line about: "Rebellious Scots to crush"? If I'd been in that team, I'd have stood stony-faced with a middle finger raised while that funereal dirge (surely the world's worst anthem) was playing.

Youll end up getting a ban from their just like I did. What will be a sure bet ban is if you slag off the paper. They cant take much of that. And their stories sure do disappear fast the minute something changes. I think they are ashamed. I dont even buy the papers any more. Too English too many adverts.

I will give the opening ceremony a miss. If there's a delicious cock-up ot four, then I'll catch them on Youtube. Some of the Games I will watch - there are several events that I like to see. But tonight's "Some of us west of Offa's Dyke and the Tamar, and south of Hadrian's Wall, think we still rule an Empire" jingoism that would have me doing unrepairable things to the TV.

And you know it's coming....just take the theme, with the Teletubbies/McDonald's (Burger) Farm tableau. LOCOG tells us it's to represet the "green and pleasant land". Excuse me, LOCOG, but don't those words read "In ENGLAND'S green and pleasant land"? Is this not a BRITISH Olympics with a BRITISH team?

Of course, if the Coe-horts had banned our flag, we could always have gone up to wave South Korean flags at North Korean events.

Meanwhile, I'm hearing unverified reports that the Olympic Sailing Pavilion at Weymouth is on fire. Started in the toilets, apparently. Right. Who do we know who once specialised in setting light to toilets? The M.O.'s identical. No 1 suspects, to the deductive powers of my little grey cells, are clear. Step forward David Cameron, George Osborne and Boris Johnson!

I was stunned to see the Teletubbies with a backdrop of Chemtrails; to show the kids our skies have always been like that. Many other adverts and films/programmes are filled with subliminal messages.

Many congratulations for our 2 local Olympic heroes - Helen Glover and Ben Ainslie. What an inspiration for our young people. A credit to the country and Great Britain. Well Done!

Haven't been on here for a while but amused to see trevorpen is still wittering away..

Trevor - if you are so convinced that Cornwall is neatly and permanently enfolded into the state of england why do you constantly need to pop up and go on about it at every opportunity ?

Its a bit like saying the sun comes up in the east every morning but everyone somene needs to vigilantly monitor any opinion that dares suggest otherwise ?

You and your incessant pointless comments are boring, and lie a bad joke hear dtoo many times, not funny any more - just effing pathetic.

If the pointless and tedious repitition of nonsense was in the Olympics you would be getting gold for ingurrrrland thats for sure.
