The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
Nice thought, Factotum, but in practice, that means a lot of spare cash, to take the big-eared twat to court. If you had it, you would eventually win, because everybody knows the illegality of his little cash-generating scheme. But too many powerful vested interests, a subservient police and army, and too few with the guts, cash, time and knowledge to take on the royal money-launderer...
Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
Then I suppose that only leaves mass protests. Unfortunately most people don't know there's a problem and probably wouldn't even see it as a problem if they knew. Bit sad really, the Cornish situation. There may well be a good legal case for special constitutional status, there may well be an economic/political/cultural case for some real autonomy, but aside from the handful that post here and on similar fora, who really cares? And yet the flag gets flown. Sorry, I'm confused ...
Some Scottish people power (can't see any Breton or Cornish flags, although the Basques and Flemmings were there ... hey-ho!)

Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
At about 07:52 this morning, on Radio 4's "Today" programme, there was a very interesting item about the Duchy.
The Ph.D. student at Plymouth University who is researching the Duchy's powers (John Kirkhope?) spoke about an attempt under the Freedom of Information Act to get more information about the Duchy. Permission was granted to obtain this information, but an appeal has now been launched. The interview is available on i-player; go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4 and find a recording of this morning's programme.

Can the recording still be found. I'm having a little difficulty.
Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
It can, but Kirkhope wasn't given much time for a decent say.
Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
Isn't his stuff all online somewhere? I'm sure I remember reading it.
Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
Some of it. Not all of it. Not by a country mile.

For John Kirkhope's incredibly insightful article in Plymouth Law Review go to:
http://www.pbs.plymouth.ac.uk/PLR/vol3/Kirkhope.pdf
and on his services as a Notary Public specialising in, amongst other things, on the law in Cornwall.
http://www.jkirkhope.co.uk/index.php?page=stannary-law
and if you're quick (I think it may go tonight at midnight as it was a week ago) 1 hour 53 minutes in to hear him on radio:

Your link to the radio doesn't work. 1h 53 mins in there is nothing about Kirkhope.
Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
It is there, Fulub, somewhere close to that time, maybe a tad before, but he wasn't allowed much of a say.

Sadly last Tuesday's edition of the Today Programme has gone. It only remains on the iPlayer site for 7 days and so it is now linking you to today's edition.
It was as Mahrak has pointed out a short interview, all of the points of which are made in his article and elsewhere.

Re: The powers of the queen and Prince Charles
Freedom of information campaigner and journalist Heather Brooke says the decision by the government to veto the release of letters from Prince Charles is almost feudal and an affront to democracy. Brooke says that while the coalition government has made the workings of the state more transparent, a 'ruling elite' is still defending secrecy: http://thecornishrepublican.blogspot.fr ... opped.html
