Leaving aside the confusion between county and country in your article (which others will doubtless be kind enough to elucidate), there is nothing to thank the Liberal Democrats for. Nothing, unless it is praiseworthy to vote against an issue that they had previously voted for simply to gain revenge on the Tories for not taking reform of the House of Lords further.

Stephen Gilbert notoriously voted for Devonwall when he had promised to vote against it a matter of weeks before he went through the lobby in favour.

Cornwall is, for once, the beneficiary of Lib Dem treachery. We should be thankful for small mercies rather than grateful to the Fib Dems.

That the L-Ds had previously supported Devonwall shouldn't be forgotten. Nor should the fact that they also bulldozed this awful unitary authority on Cornish residents who didn't want it, but were given no say in the matter.

The surprising thing in this instance is that they actually made good on a threat.
