A chance to set the record straigh with English nationalists

Post by Fulub-le-Breton » Wed Aug 14, 2013 10:21 am

Some English people no doubt feel a greater allegiance to their native counties or cities than they do to England as a whole. There are significant numbers of people in cities such as London, Liverpool and Manchester and counties such as Cornwall and Yorkshire who feel a regional or city ‘patriotism’ that exceeds or replaces patriotism for England. Perhaps part of the reason for this is that they have picked up the notion that England doesn’t have a tangible identity or if it does it is something negative and sinister. Because of this they seize upon a PC friendly alternative which they feel free celebrate and enjoy. Or perhaps they have been led to believe that Englishness is a southern phenomenon or that to be proud to be English automatically means that you are one of those ‘little Englander’ bigots so despised by self-righteous liberal snobs at the Guardian and by the chattering classes. Whatever the reason, we need to destroy the misconceptions and show that Englishness can mean many things to many different people, but that it is no less real because of it.
