I would argue that the Cornish Rugby team in 1991 at Twickenham did more for Cornwall as a nation than pretty much anyone ever else has... You struggled to buy a St Piran flag before then. (possibly building on the Durham final a couple of years before)

I am sure that you are correct, and the conspiracy theorists among us would say that the surge of Cornish nationalism which followed that final sent a shiver up the spine of the establishment and was a contributory factor in the subsequent downgrading of the competition to its present junior form.

Similarly, those same conspiracy theorists would argue that the hugely torturous and convoluted process of providing a stadium for Cornwall is designed to ensure that the Cornish Pirates can never fulfill a similar role in the future - or in the unlikely event of the project going ahead, make sure that thousands of immigrants can be imported on the back of it.Tasgwynn wrote:I am sure that you are correct, and the conspiracy theorists among us would say that the surge of Cornish nationalism which followed that final sent a shiver up the spine of the establishment and was a contributory factor in the subsequent downgrading of the competition to its present junior form.
