So now we have 2 minute silences - is this respect inflation.
I tend to agree with you chris_I. I was discussing only a few days ago this trend of having a public silence and putting bunches of flowers at or near what seems to be every scene of an accident or tragedy of some kind. I'm not sure why or where it started (maybe with Mrs Windsor's death but I think before ?). I felt the new trend for silences took something away from Remembrance Day (11th Nov) and maybe something individual to each event would be better. In a way it's intruding on the sorrow and grief of those directly connected with those who have died. I am not sure about this, but in any case it's unlikely to stop unless Bob Geldoff (?) comes up with something original to allow people to show empathy/support/solidarity
