NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

SALMOND VICTORY OVERCOMES ELECTORAL SYSTEM DESIGNED TO BLOCK SNP

The Director of Information (DOI) for the Celtic League has hailed the victory of the SNP in recent Holyrood elections as an incredible success made all the more striking by the fact that the electoral system for the Scottish parliament was initially designed to block such an outcome.

Speaking on Manx Radio's `talking heads' programme the DOI said that the SNP leader Alex Salmond had once again demonstrated what an astute leader he was.

Asked about the contrast with the slow pace of progress constitutionally elsewhere in the Celtic countries the DOI said the Isle of Man faced the real prospect that Scotland would overhaul it on the road to independence.

He also said that Alex Salmond's victory had demonstrated that those who demonstrate negativity towards nationalist aspirations are misguided and that was a lesson that should be learned in other Celtic countries.

I think the CL is just trying to bask in Scotland's reflected glory. I doubt they had any significant part in the SNP victory. As one commentator put it, "it was the Scots people what won it", aided by incompetence/indifference from the unionist parties. If Scotland goes for "devolution MAX" as a half-way house, that would amount to IoM status.

And Cornwall? What are the CL and our fraternal Celtic friends doing for Cornwall? Mostly they seem to forget we even exist!

I was asking a question. An answer might be informative. What exactly is the CL? it's not a league of all the different countries nationalist parties, now that would be something useful.

The question really is why is it left up to the CL to initiate such projects rather than all the well established Cornish organisations of which there are a great many. This is not a criticism of the CL just surprise as to why you need to involve yourself in local projects here. I think my questions are valid regardless of the level of my own involvement at present.

The Celtic League is a 'well established' organisation.

Nevertheless, all other organisations are warmly encouraged to work and contribute towards Cornish projects.

There is much to be done.

Because that's what the Celtic League is for, Keith. And, as the other well-established Cornish organisations aren't best noted for taking up these cudgels, then the CL must, thank God.
