NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

THE QUEEN, MUBARAK OR GADAFFI SPOT ANY DIFFERENCE - MORISSEY

Whilst opposition to the English Queens visit to Ireland, outside of republican circles in Ireland, has been fairly muted one prominent Irish celebrity has this week launched an outspoken attack on her likening the concept of the English monarchy to "fascism in full flow".

In an article for the UK music newspaper `Hot Press' the Manchester-Irish musician Morrissey describes the Queens Irish trip as "part of a new Palace PR campaign to reinvent the Windsors."

He also reminds Irish people dewy-eyed at the Royal visit that:

"as recently as the turn of the 1980s the Queen supported Margaret Thatcher by not dismissing Thatcher as she allowed hunger strikers to die at the Maze Prison, most famously Bobby Sands, who was 27 years old. As Sands starved to death in protest at being tagged a 'criminal' and not a 'political prisoner' by the Thatcher government, the Queen sat in her Palace and said nothing. If the Queen had any human feelings for the Sands family or other hunger strikers then she did not express them."

He goes on:

"The very existence of the Queen and her now enormous family – all supported by the British taxpayer whether the British taxpayer likes it or not – is entirely against any notion of democracy, and is against freedom of speech. For a broad historical view of what the Queen is and how she "rules", examine Gaddafi or Mubarak, and see if you can spot any difference."

This just in from a CL member in Eire:

"Of all of the articles about Elizabeth Windsor's visit to Ireland, this has to be the most sickening.

"Sympathy" to the Irish victims of the Troubles, troubles that her military occupation of Ireland caused and continue to cause.

The Good Friday Agreement "whose success in helping to bring stability and peace to Northern Ireland had ultimately made her visit possible." Wrong, wrong wrong!

What made her trip "possible" was a government in the Free State that was willing to take the streets of each area she's visited away from the people of Ireland. 8,000 police on the ground and snipers on the rooftops.

This visit was supposed to show how "normal" things have become, we only have to look at the streets in City Centre Dublin to realize that there was absolutely nothing "normal" about her visit. Average citizens being searched at random, snipers on the roof of the GPO, mothers being forced to take their babies out of trams so that they could be searched and people being denied the right to carry the IRISH NATIONAL FLAG beyond check points.

"The Queen, wearing a dress adorned with 2,091 hand-sewn embroidered shamrocks, arrived at Dublin Castle, the former seat of British rule, with the Duke of Edinburgh by her side."

And does this seem as bizarre to everyone else as it does to me?

Unemployment at its highest in the Free State since the 1960s and about to go off the chart in West Belfast yet she flaunts a dress with 2,091 hand-sewn embroidered shamrocks.

Monarchs have been out of touch with reality for time immemorial.

I'll close for now as I'm off to see the wizard."

Bobby Sands - Freedom Fighter

Osama Bin Laden - US sponsored anti Soviet fighter who is probably still alive with his family being massive financial stakeholders in the US economy

Elizabeth Windsor and clan - historical and current landgrabbers, murderers and imperialists

The 'blood banner' St George Flag - a sign of racism as evidenced here:

And from a political party to a populist movement up in England. Note the banner flown.

If a Welshman comes to you and says that when he returned to the place he was brought up, he found it full of strangers speaking a different language, with different values, customs, religion etc., namely middle class English incomers, then I imagine most people here, and the CL would sympathise with him and quite possibly support militant action such as arson attacks and vandalism etc.

But when this happens to working class English people who see exactly the same thing happening to the places where they come from you call them fascists if they even march in protest.

If the Welsh (and indeed the Cornish) can legitimately protest against the destruction of their culture, why shouldn't the English have the same right to protect their way of life *in their own country* (as opposed to trying to impose it on anyone else's country)?

Sorry but this distinction has always puzzled me.

Yes, and I know they're mostly thugs and hooligans, but the reason is because the media folks and the political classes, safe in their mansion flats, gated communities and rural retreats are totally out of touch with normal life in the inner cities. Not that they give a stuff about anyone else in any case. I saw Paxman interviewing one of these English Nat. types, and it was immediately obvious that they were living on different planets.
