A ny dal an poeslev koedhe war an syllabenn dhiwethha oll dhe dhiwedh "Bleuzennow"? Kepar yn sowsneg war "learn"? A allse an ger "byth" boz usyyz omma yn le "nevre" martesen. "Byth" heb treylyans yw kevyz yn fenowgh avel adverb, e.g. "Byth ni vynnav gul henna". Awoz y voz unnsyllabeg, moy emphatic yw, my a gryz agez "nevre" may fydh oll an nerth gorryz war an unn syllabenn-na.

On the subject of Cornish translations, there's a factoid being propagated around Facebook, YouTube comments, Twitter and suchlike low joints (most of which I avoid on principle) that the Cornish words to "The Lark in the Morning" were collected by Baring-Gould about a century earlier than the date when he collected the English words (1891). The origin of this myth seems to be a muddled Wikipedia entry which gives the Cornish words from "Hengan" followed by the English "translation". What this shows is that people really want to believe that the language never died, which is interesting in itself. What interests me is who actually did the (UC) Cornish translation. It contains grammatical errors so I doubt if it could have been the work of Gendall, Brian Webb, Julyan Holmes etc. It begins :

"Del en vy ow kerdhes un myttyn yn mys me"
"Y clewys moren yowynk, neb geryow yn-meth hy"

Which would never ever rhyme in any form of Cornish trad. or revived afaik. [groan]
The third line ends with "may vo" [sic]

So it looks like it comes from fairly early in the Nancian phase of the Revival. So, does anyone know when and by whom this song was translated?
