Should Cornwall/Kernow become the Seventh Nation for the Home Nations Rugby?
Cornwall has a fine rugby history and tradition. Why could the Cornwall "County" side not enter as the Seventh nation in a new 7 nations tournament? I think there would be support for it and it would do a lot for Cornwall.
Before there are howls of protest about Cornwall not being a nation, let us not forget that Ireland play as "All Ireland" and in Rugby there are many sides that represent "less official" nations/ethnicities e.g. Pacific Islanders, New Zealand Maoris etc.
Any thoughts?

As the state of play in the Cornish "national " side goes at the moment, no it would never happen. For such a thing to happen, we would have to apply to the IRB to be accepted as a rugby nation then to participate in tier 3 of the European Nations Cup. After many years of hopefully moving up the ranks and the tier system then perhaps Cornwall would be strong enough to accepted into a "Seven" Nations competition. A fantasy it is, but in the years to come, who knows, i doubt it will ever happen but you never know...maybe one day eh.

We should start up a Cornish version of the Highland Games - wrestling, hurling, Saxon-stomping, shag-shooting . . .

It would only be reasonable seeing as we gave the game to the world...
(well its a good theory at least with some evidence!)

Saxon-stomping would be a good one to give the world. I can see several countries lining up to take that on.

Yes, definitely. Just imagine Trelawney being sung in the stadium ..... the stadium? What stadium? I don't think we have a suitable stadium.
Re: Should Cornwall/Kernow become the Seventh Nation for the
There's one planned for a site at Threemilestone. I shouldn't think that Tonga or Fiji have a super-stadium, either, but they rightly play in internationals. Wouldn't it be great, though - the strains of Trelawny (no -e-, Palores), and the ritual of the hanging the giant pasty from the crossbar.

The Fiji National Stadium

Yes, Cornwall needs an organisation (or does it have one already) dedicated to promoting the Cornish national identity through sport. I remember writing about this on a Cornish Facebook group a long time ago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_MatavesiJosh Matavesi (born 5 October 1990) is a British rugby union footballer of Fijian descent. He is a utility back, and currently represents Exeter Chiefs in the RFU Championship, and Fiji in international rugby. He has personally said that he feels Cornish, not English, and identifies himself as "Cornish Fijian".[1] He is 6'1 and weighs 95 kg. He has a younger brother, Sam Matavesi who plays for and studies at Truro College.
At least he had the choice of playing for Fiji on an international level, rather than just England as most Cornish players would have.
Re: Should Cornwall/Kernow become the Seventh Nation for the
Cornish players have played for Wales and Scotland, too, but I'm sure they'd rather have the right to represent their own nation.

Using sport as a politcial tool is old hat, Marhak.
