I was interested to read of the "Billions of Pounds" that Ireland is likely to making from its offshore oil reserves and it put me in mind of reports from a few decades ago. Back in the late 70s early 80s when Aberdeen was enjoying the wealth of the North Sea Oil boom I'm sure I remember reports of geological claims that there was oil off Cornwall. Falmouth was to be the future Aberdeen. Does anyone else remember/know anything of this? If true it certainly fuel (sorry!) an interesting debate on ownership...
If invested properly (unlike North Sea that the witch Thatcher had to pay out the dole queues she created on) oil could provide a sustainable income. If Cornwall could get a slice it would have consequences though on prices, more immigration etc
