Shiner...if choose to do dangerous sports, shoot up drugs or gash youself on broken glass breaking into someone's home then feckless, stupid and evil are appropriate adjectives. Graham labelling me as right wing....is it right wing that the most deserving in society should be denied treatment because scant resources are going into the above? Pretty much where the 'left' has lost faith with its own natural people I would say. Smokers fall into the dangerous sports category - ironically.
Graham can have his smoking dens if he wants, but I should not have to pick up the tab for the health impact.
Seems a bit extreme.
By your account we'd have mountaineers lying screaming on the Cornish cliffs, rugby players crawling the streets with torn ligaments, petty thieves bleeding to death in gardens, pilots rotting away in hedgerows and Graham Hart and Alister competing against each other in the new stadium for Cornwall's 100 a day spliff toking marathon.
Not sure how smoking falls in the category of sport either. Would training sessions take place on board duty free trips to France?
Then there's the obese people. There's probably more people sick due to a life time of eating the crap western diet than all dangerous sports (including smoking) put together. What are you going to do with them? Ban all open heart surgery caused by high fat diets? Refuse insulin to those who got diabetes from a life time on a high sugar diet? Ban liver and kidney transplants to heavy drinkers?
What about motorists in road accidents, should we leave them bleeding to death on the hard shoulder of motorways because just about everyone drives over 70 mph?
What sort of society do you anticipate in your ultra safe world? One where everyone walks round in padded suits at no more than 2 miles an hour?
At least National Insurance contributions should go down making it easier to afford the crash helmets we'll need to pop round the neighbours house for a cup of sterilised herbal tea (without sugar and milk).
