Falweek
The origins of the Falmouth Week celebrations can be traced back to at least 1837, when a small sailing regatta was held in the Cornish town. Since then, it has developed into one of the world's most exciting sailing competitions, but also has plenty to entertain those who have never had the opportunity to step onboard a boat.
Events take place throughout the day and long into the night, and includes live music from local bands, a carnival-like parade, and a fireworks display. A market selling regional products also sets up shop on The Moor. If you're keen to stick with the water you can opt to participate in, or enjoy the spectacle of, the Trident Swim Challenge which starts on Gyllyngvase Beach.
But that's not all. The dedicated ‘Events Square' hosts a Cornish crafts market and science festival as part of its week of events. You can also join guided historic walks around the town, or watch your little ones discover the wonder of the coastal rock pools. Falmouth Week usually takes place on the second week of August.
